Review: Zack Snyder Justice League. World movie connoisseurs, especially those who like superhero-themed movies in the DC Extended Universe storytelling universe, are clearly familiar with a number of dramas that take place behind the scenes from the production process to the release of Justice League (Zack Snyder, 2017).

There were various problems during the production process, from the story script being rewritten to the issue that Warner Bros Pictures did not like the final product, Snyder then chose to give up his duties as director during Justice League. in post-production after he had to face the tragedy that befell his family.

Warner Bros Pictures then appointed Joss Whedon (The Avengers, 2012) to fill the position and continue the process of making the movie that Snyder left behind.

However, instead of continuing with Snyder's previous filming and storytelling, Whedon opted for a major restructuring of Justice League's storytelling that required the entire cast and movie crew to return to a number of reshoots four months before the movies release.

About Problems in Filmmaking

Snyder's name was still placed as director of Justice League, which was released in late 2017, but it is estimated that only about ten percent of the images Snyder produces are used in the final product Whedon processes.

It must be admitted, in the hands of Whedon, Justice League comes with a lighter tone of storytelling with a touch of comedy nuanced dialogue that makes it look like The Avengers that Whedon previously managed to work on.

Unfortunately, the storyline offered by Whedon was not well received by critics and connoisseurs of the DC Extended Universe movie. Using various social media platforms, various forms of criticism and protest were then voiced so that Warner Bros Pictures released a full version of Snyder's vision as director of Justice League.

Slowly, the movement began to receive responses from various parties, from fans of the DC Extended Universe film, film producers, to the ranks of the Justice League cast.

Snyder himself began to give his opinion on the existence of a full version of his vision as director of Justice League in early 2019. Finally, at the end of 2020, Snyder confirmed that the full version of Justice League would be released by Warner Bros. Pictures after going through a number of additional shooting processes.

Released with the title Justice League Zack Snyder, this latest version of Justice League promises a more comprehensive story presentation in accordance with the color of the story that Snyder wanted from the start with a story duration of 122 minutes longer than the previously released Justice League.

Movie Reviews

Snyder divides the 242-minute presentation of Zack Snyder's Justice League into six story sections and an epilogue. The story script still uses a story script that has been written by Chris Terrio (Argo, 2012).

After the death of Kal-El/Clark Kent/Superman (Henry Cavill) as told in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (Snyder, 2016), Bruce Wayne/Batman (Ben Affleck) along with Diana Prince/Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot ) trying to gather a number of human figures with special powers to unite against various evil forces that may be present and threaten the existence of Earth and everything in it.

From their search, Bruce Wayne / Batman and Diana Prince / Wonder Woman managed to find and collect Arthur Curry / Aquaman (Jason Momoa) who is a prince figure from the Kingdom of Atlantis, Barry Allen / The Flash (Ezra Miller) who has the ability to move quickly, and Victor Stone / Cyborg (Ray Fisher) who has a half human and half machine body.

The group finds their first opponent when an alien from outer space known as Darkseid (Ray Porter) attempts to conquer and rule Earth through the intercession of one of his accomplices, Steppenwolf (CiarĂ¡n Hinds).

Then, what about the quality of Zack Snyder's Justice League, which is predicted to be Snyder's complete vision for the Justice League itself?

Well, with a story duration that reaches 242 minutes, of course Snyder has the freedom to develop a number of stories for a number of conflicts and characters that may feel shallow in the previous Justice League presentation.

Each character now gets a more adequate portion of the story: interactions with the characters Nuidis Vulko (Willem Dafoe) and Mera (Amber Heard) give a deeper dimension to Arthur Curry/Aquaman's character, Barry Allen/The Flash's character gets a frame.

A story that can make its presence feel more radiant, while the presence of Bruce Wayne/Batman and Diana Prince/Wonder Woman characters now feels more crucial for the development of the movies storyline at an advanced stage.

A very significant change can be felt in the storytelling given to the figure of Victor Stone/Cyborg. Zack Snyder's Justice League not only provides a background story about the early existence and involvement of the character Victor Stone/Cyborg.

This movie is even able to provide a slick story space for the character's personal story about his relationship with his father, Silas Stone (Joe Morton), which later turns into one of the emotional moments for the journey of the movies story as a whole.

If in the previous version of Justice League the audience could not benefit from the presence of these characters, then in Justice League Zack Snyder the character Victor Stone/Cyborg became the heart and soul of the storytelling of the movie. The successful change provided a strong boost to Zack Snyder's Justice League storytelling quality.

Unfortunately, Zack Snyder's Justice League is still not able to present a more interesting story for Lois Lane (Amy Adams). The same thing can also be felt in the development of the villain characters presented in this movie.

With a story that is twice as long as the previous movie, villain characters like Darkseid and Steppenwolf feel so shallow – both in terms of character exploration and the motivation for their presence in the movies story.

The same problem that was found in the early versions of Justice League and still haunts Zack Snyder's Justice League is the lack of dialogue and plot development that feels essential.

The dialogues that are present in this movie often have a technical tone to support the smoothness and continuation of the storyline rather than as a medium of communication between characters.

Justice League Zack Snyder also never felt that he had a complete story plot that was useful other than as a stepping stone for each character in this movies storyline to be developed in the next DC Extended Universe film series.

Of course, Snyder deserves more credit for his efforts to deliver a movie presentation with his vision of storytelling intact.

His struggles resulted in a presentation of superheroes who were thick with their respective identities and Snyder's identity as a storyteller.

Closing

Zack Snyder's Justice League is well-packaged from all the technical aspects of its presentation and the rhythm of its storytelling that ensures this movie is told clearly and smoothly.

Although the quality of the story script does not provide strong support to justify the (too) long duration of the story, the focus on superhero characters and the appearance of the actors who are able to bring each character to life is quite successful.

Zack Snyder's making Justice League is never boring. And, like it or not, maybe that's enough for this movie.
