Review: Nobody Movie 2021

Review: Nobody Movie 2021

Review: Nobody Movie 2021. The movie is arguably not a blockbuster: it doesn't star any top Hollywood actors and has a minimal production or promotion budget.

Not only that, if you look at the premise, it's not much different from a bloody action movie with a tough protagonist. Actually I did not have high expectations for this movie, but as a result, this movie appears newer and more interesting.

Review: Nobody Movie 2021, Synopsis

Synopsis: Nobody tells the story of Hutch Mansell (Bob Odenkirk) who has a monotonous life routine and is experiencing a midlife crisis.

After waking up, he exercises, makes coffee, has breakfast, doesn't forget to miss the garbage truck, goes to work, comes home, and so on. This life makes the atmosphere of the house cooler.

One day, a pair of robbers broke into Mansell's house. His wife and son were disappointed that Mansell had released the robber instead, despite his son's attempts to catch him. Feeling useless to his family, Mansell begins tracking down the robbers and ends up looking into trouble with Russian gangsters.

Movie Reviews

Usually, action movies come with a protagonist who goes solo with a tough image against hordes of baddies, as well as this movie.

Fortunately, this concept was created by director Ilya Naishuller with a script from Derek Kolstad. The combination of the two makes Nobody a thrilling and enjoyable movie.

What's fun about a guy fighting here and there and shooting here and there? The answer is the human side, naivety, and Mansell's point of view. It opens with Mansell's monotonous life, the longer we are shown the more interesting his figure is.

In the first fight scene on the bus, Mansell already gave an appearance with action choreography that made the audience applaud. Instead of relying on firearms or sharp weapons alone, Mansell also uses his intelligence and expertise to beat up bullies.

Interestingly, Mansell is present as a human figure. No matter how strong he was, he could be knocked out of the bus window, limped, and battered. Even though he looked scary like a wolf in sheep's clothing, he didn't dare to hurt women and children.

An act of revenge based on his daughter's stolen cat necklace causes Mansell to confront the Russian mafia. Mansell wasn't the kind of guy who was eager to face his enemy either. He answered slowly, planned, and to the point. That is, Mansell has a hidden skill that makes him curious about his past.

Review: Nobody Movie 2021

The movie Nobody reminds viewers of the John Wick film series. How not, the poster is similar to the movie poster for John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017). Hutch Mansell and John Wick are both battered in the middle against a black background. The difference is, John Wick was pointed at by many weapons, while Mansell was hit by many punches.

In addition, in terms of character between John Wick and Mansell are also similar. Both of them have left their gloomy past lives and are trying to live a new life. However, his wolf side emerges when confronted by the bad guys and makes him once again overthrow his foes in clever ways.

Behind the choreography of Mansell when eliminating the enemy is the work of the John Wick production team. Instead of plagiarizing, the production team made it even more amazing.

The sadistic fights and gunfights are made more creative with iconic moves that may become the talk of the audience after leaving the cinema.

Another difference, namely the matter of budget, which is much different from the John Wick series. The film Nobody had a budget of 16 million dollars.

While John Wick needed 20 million dollars in the first movie, 40 million dollars in the second movie, and 75 million dollars in the third movie. But this is not a problem, considering that Nobody and John Wick have very different production values.

Mansell also bears a resemblance to John Wick in terms of character. However, Mansell is more interesting and human. The vengeful father character is similar to John Wick (Keanu Reeves), Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) in The Equalizer (2014), and Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson) in the Taken series.

Interestingly, Mansell's character development is much more fun. With comedic dialogue and unique fighting skills, reminiscent of the action of Jackie Chan.

There is a song called Impossible Dream that is played in the film which makes the action of Mansell (and the team) even more exciting. Interestingly, the music is the trailer song for the movie John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019).

The action is accompanied by other classic songs, such as Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood with a sadistic slow motion scene that is more interesting because it gives a feel good effect.

Amazingly, Mansell actor, Bob Odenkirk, trained for two years to deepen his character. For information, the premise of the movie Nobody is based on Odenkirk's experience when handling a robbery in his own house and trapping them in the basement.

Odenkirk got frustrated when the authorities didn't take the matter too seriously, so he intended to handle it his own way.

However, Mansell who took revenge did not take justice into his own hands. He killed the people he deserved to kill, especially those who came to his house and disturbed his family.

Even the main villain, Yulian Kuznetsov (Aleksey Serebryakov), he gives the man a chance to repent from the mafia world. He did this because Mansell was just as bad as Yulian.

The action is getting fiercer when supported by his brother, Harry Mansell (RZA) and his father, Christopher Lloyd (David Mansell). Both of them know exactly how to play a supporting role without taking the Odenkirk stage.

Mansell is great as a man trying to leave a violent past behind. From his character, Mansell taught a generation about repentance, which is easier said than done.

Closing

Broadly speaking, Nobody's movie is not a serious and gloomy action movie. There is a balance between drama, action and satirical comedy.

Watching movies with a rating of 17 years and over is the right choice for those of you who are tired of daily activities. It's really fun, making the Nobody movie goes fast and can't wait for the sequel.

There's a mid-credits scene, where Hutch's father, David, and Harry's brother drive a caravan full of guns. If there is a sequel, Nobody 2 will not be turned down.
