How to Change Human Personality Type. A person's personality can change depending on the situation and conditions.

This time I will discuss the book Personality isn't Permanent by Benjamin Hardy. This book discusses that personality is not something permanent and we can write about who we really are.

Who doesn't love personality tests? This is an interesting test and often gives us an idea of   who we are that we don't even realize.

But unfortunately, many people feel that the personality test is who they really are and will not change. This instead becomes a shackle of beliefs that limit us from achieving what we want in life.

In fact, we can make ourselves what we are and achieve the desired goals. As we get older and experience life, of course our personalities can change and this is a natural thing.

The point is not to limit yourself from the shackles of the past and try to create the future you want.

I summarized them into three highlights from the book Personality isn't Permanent by Benjamin Hardy:

First, your personality can change


If you have ever tried a personality test, you will know that at the end of the test, you will be grouped into a certain type. The danger is that most people feel that this type is a complete picture of themselves.

For example, people often refer to themselves as introverts and extroverts. These then limit themselves based on their previous beliefs.

In fact, if only they opened up and didn't let their personality type define who they really are, their lives would be filled with endless possibilities and opportunities.

It should be understood, personality types are certain social or mental formations, not actual reality. In other words, personality is your consistent pattern and behavior over a period of time. It's how we interact with the world. Different situations will produce different attitudes.

In addition, who you are today may be different from 10 years ago, as well as personality. Life isn't tied in with finding what your identity is, it's about creating who you want to be.

From time immemorial, we have been required to believe that we are who we are and cannot change. We need to take time to find who we truly are.. Unfortunately this is not quite right.

Our personality is not embedded in our DNA or given at birth. I can transform, you can change, everybody can change..

Our personality can be changed, who we are today has been shaped through habit choices, trained by our environment, and our expectations. We become who we are through the objectives we set and the experiences that shape us. Our goals determine our personality, not the other way around.

So why not set ambitious goals that will allow you to move far beyond your current self, and allow you to shape the person you truly want to be?

Second, choose who we will be in the future


You can choose who you will be in the future. This is because your personality is flexible, not fixed. You have been trained to be who you are today and as such, your personality can change as your perspective on life changes.

For example, you are a patient person because you have developed the habit of being patient. It's the same if you are a confident person because you have developed the habit of being confident. This fact of course makes us more free and not bound by certain types.

For some people, the ability to choose what kind of life to live is a freedom, but for some people, this is actually scary, they prefer if life goes with the flow because making choices means there are consequences. That's what makes people often do not want to make decisions and ultimately limit their potential.

There are interesting things that we can ponder together. What made great people like Mahatma Gandhi or Mother Teresa such a big part of the world? Is it because of their personality or the choices they make?

Purpose will always trump personality. This is one way that helps you to change your life. Later this will help you direct who you will be. Remember, goals are the determining factor of what you can achieve in life, not personality.

The idea is simple, set goals that are so big and inspiring that they can ultimately change your entire life. From that goal, then you develop what personality is needed.

Keep in mind, when you determine the goals you want to achieve, don't focus too much on the achievements you want to achieve but focus on changing yourself after going through the process to achieve those goals.

Third, Stuck in the past


Trauma is a negative, self-limiting experience. Ben tells the story of a man who is in his eighties and has a passion for writing and illustrating children's books.

However, that person never did, because he had a bad experience in drawing class that robbed this budding children's book author of confidence in his drawing skills.

So, despite having passion in his heart, and 50 years of trying to improve his drawing skills, that person never wrote the book he dreamed of writing. However, we have a choice whether it becomes an obstacle for us to achieve our goals or not.

Many people have similar negative experiences in learning mathematics. This led Jennifer Ruef, a professor of mathematics education, to coin the phrase "the fragile identity of mathematics." People who suffer from this become afraid of math, avoiding failure by not taking classes or problems that are quite difficult. As a result, this then limits their chances of getting better at these subjects.

Fear of failure makes a person afraid of taking risks, inflexibility, and then avoiding challenges that can help his personal growth.

An important step in dealing with trauma is to reconsider the people in your life. You need to be able to talk openly about past struggles and experiences.


This can be done by surrounding yourself with a supportive circle of friends. If the person learns to deal with difficult experiences and memories, usually with the help of others, it opens up the possibility to reinterpret past experiences and learn from them.

This may happen through friendship, therapy, or both. The person can then learn to be more emotionally flexible and able to imagine their future, grow personally, and enjoy life more.
